The Institute for the Trans-Balkanic Cultural Cooperation (I.T.C.C.), recognized by decision 6247/04/12.2006 of the Athens Court of First Instance, is a new non-profit scientific organization based in Athens, which is governed through statutory procedures and legally audited elections by a five-member Board of Directors for a four-year term of office.

Its fundamental objective, based on its approved Statutes, is the sincere, in-depth development of cultural relations between the countries of the Balkan Peninsula. Its twenty-five (25) founding members, specialized in Balkan History and Archaeology, PhDs and PhD candidates from Greek Universities (University of Athens, University of Ioannina, University of Crete), and its honorary members, experts from Greece and the Balkans, are so willing, as well as the scientific training to contribute with all their strengths to the study of the historical and archaeological past of the Balkans and to join their positive disposition and their forces with colleagues from Albania and neighbouring countries, so that culture can be the basis on which the common course of these countries will be founded in a competitive European and international environment in a period of generalized economic crisis.

Better acquaintance between the Balkan peoples and the effort of cultural cooperation must be considered a top priority in planning the future of the Balkans.

Key objectives

The main objectives of the I.I.P.O.S. are the following:

  1. Close and equal cooperation with scientific institutions of the countries of the Balkan region and especially the Western Balkans (Albania, FYROM).
  2. The promotion (scientific, academic and online) of the historical, archaeological, folklore, environmental and ecological wealth of the region.
  3. the effort to create and organise a Department of History-Archaeology and an Academic Centre for Archaeological Studies within the framework of the operation of the academic units in Albania.
  4. the organisation of workshops, conferences, archaeological exhibitions, educational excursions in the above mentioned areas and the promotion of less known archaeological sites of the Western Balkans, but also of the neighbouring regions of Western Macedonia.
  5. the establishment of a periodical scientific, archaeological and historical yearbook under the supervision of a Special Scientific Committee, consisting of distinguished Balkan scientists, as well as general publishing activity (photo albums, translations of archaeological books, publications of studies, scientific theses, related to the wider region, etc.)
  6. the promotion of archaeological research, already since 2009 with the organisation of the Greek-Albanian Interdisciplinary Archaeological Mission in the Albanian part of the Great Prespa, on a bilateral and inter-Balkan level and the electronic and online promotion of the activities of the I.D.I.P.O.S. aims to contribute to the creation of new bases for the communication of the Balkan peoples in the context of their common European course.
